The best camera

by Spencer

There is a well known saying among the photo community – “the best camera is the one with you” which was said by photographer Chase Jarvis. I think about this saying often. I’m almost never without some form of camera; from my cell phone to a point & shoot to my work and play cameras. Even my cell phones camera is quite capable in most situations and I like to try and take at least one shot with it a day.

A few weeks back I dislocated my shoulder while snowboarding. This was not really a pleasant experience, but an experience just the same. Looking back, I never took a single picture. Both my good friend Morgan and I had our phones with us. I have no excuse for not documenting it and I feel daft for not taking a moment to capture at least a single frame. Only Morgan and I are going to remember what my shoulder looked like and I miss out on both bragging rights and the memory when I grow old.

Reflecting back, this really makes me realize that I would like to stop more and document. Not to the point that it interrupts life, but enough that I don’t miss major events.

If you have any camera at all, I suggest taking it with you when you head out. Even if you don’t use it, it would be a shame to want it and not have it.

Here an old picture of Morgan, because what’s a photographer’s blog without pictures.
